The Museum of Popular and Rural Culture in Villastellone presents “Giù al fiume”, a solo show by Carignano-born artist Giancarlo Laurenti. The exhibition explores the dialogue between natural materials and imagination: driftwood and branches retrieved from riverbanks are transformed into sculptures that evoke ritual figures, deities and river landscapes.
Opening: Friday, April 10, 2026 at 6:00 PM.
The exhibition is supported by Cassa di Risparmio di Fossano, Villastellone branch. Laurenti’s practice focuses on recovering river-borne wood and giving it renewed presence through careful conservation and selective intervention, revealing expressive forms already latent in the material.
Alongside sculpture, Laurenti produces landscapes marked by essential compositional planes, intense skies and atmospheres inspired by travels and encounters with craft traditions such as Makonde woodcarving. His work moves between material, form and the translation of ideas into objects.
Recommended for visitors interested in wooden sculpture, site-related art and contemporary practices that repurpose natural materials. Check the museum website for any last-minute changes to opening hours.
