Friuli Venezia Giulia: €900,000 for the preservation of UNESCO Sites

The Regional Council of Friuli Venezia Giulia has approved an extraordinary measure of €900,000 for municipalities hosting UNESCO-listed sites. The resolution was adopted on 24 April 2026 in Trieste and funds concrete actions for conservation, enhancement and more sustainable public enjoyment of cultural heritage.

The funding breakdown by municipality is:

  • Cividale del Friuli: €405,000 (€150,000 current expenditure, €255,000 capital) — projects linked to "The Lombards in Italy: places of power".
  • Palmanova: €295,000 (€250,000 current, €45,000 capital) — for conservation and enhancement of Venetian defensive works from the 16th–17th centuries.
  • Caneva (Palù di Livenza): €200,000 (€100,000 current, €100,000 capital) — to support the pile-dwelling site.

Eligible interventions include:

  • conservation and routine maintenance of monuments and structures;
  • infrastructure projects to improve visitor experience (paths, signage, accessibility);
  • museum initiatives, communication projects and sustainable tourism promotion.

Visitors can expect clearer trails, updated signage and enhanced local services. Municipal administrations will be able to start restoration works and development programs aimed at protecting assets and expanding sustainable cultural offerings.

Practical advice: if you plan to visit, check the official municipal websites for updates on temporary works, alternative routes and new promotional activities.
