On 26 April 2026 Aiello Calabro officially joined the national network of The Most Beautiful Villages of Italy. The day opened at 10:30 in Piazza Municipio with a ribbon-cutting, followed by a conference in Piazza Plebiscito and a reception at the 16th-century Cybo-Malaspina Palace.
The flag ceremony was both symbolic and institutional, and it provided an opportunity to bring attention back to the main challenges facing small historic towns: limited resources, administrative burdens and, above all, the depopulation of inland areas.
Speakers stressed the importance of civic participation and stable local governance to convert historical assets into tangible opportunities. The mayor emphasized the need to turn the village's beauty into concrete initiatives that create jobs, training and improved services so that young people can choose to stay.
Proposals discussed included promoting local products through targeted market initiatives and advocating for fiscal advantages and structured national policies to support inland communities. The shared takeaway was that the recognition marks the beginning of a new phase focused on sustainable enhancement and reversing depopulation trends.
For visitors and lovers of historic villages, Aiello Calabro's admission to the national network is an added reason to explore its squares, historic palaces and local traditions while supporting the local economy.
