The Ministry of Culture has included the municipalities of Fivizzano and Pontremoli among the ten finalists competing for the title of Italian Book Capital 2027. Fivizzano's proposal, called “Fivizzano — Like an Open Book”, highlights the area's long printing tradition dating back to the 15th century.
The project outlines a comprehensive, territory-wide program throughout 2027, featuring events for citizens and schools and the creation of the “LeggerMENTE” network of dispersed libraries in local villages. Central to the bid is the restoration and enhancement of the Jacopo da Fivizzano Printing Museum as a permanent cultural hub.
The mayor described being among the ten finalists as “a great victory” for Lunigiana and recognition of the area's cultural identity. The announcement of the Italian Book Capital 2027 will take place in the coming months.
