Italian Book Capital 2027: Palazzo San Gervasio and Chiaromonte submit bids

Two proposals from Basilicata join the national competition that highlights books and reading as cultural and social tools. Palazzo San Gervasio leads a network of 16 municipalities, while Chiaromonte presents the dossier titled "Le trame di Calliope".

• Applications received: 31 projects competing for the Italian Book Capital 2027 title.
• Lead network: Palazzo San Gervasio heads an aggregation of 15 towns (Acerenza, Banzi, Cancellara, Forenza, Genzano di Lucania, Ginestra, Lavello, Maschito, Melfi, Montemilone, Oppido Lucano, Potenza, San Chirico Nuovo, Tolve, Venosa).
• Chiaromonte's project: submitted under the name "Le trame di Calliope".
• Goals: to position books and reading as instruments of inclusion, innovation and participation.
• Selection process: a commission of five independent experts will shortlist up to 10 finalists; the nominated city will be proposed to the minister by July 31.
• Funding: the designated Book Capital will receive up to €500,000 to implement the planned activities.
