From 17 to 19 April 2026, Aquileia becomes a meeting point for advocates and newcomers to slow travel. The festival highlights walking as a way to explore places, connect with heritage and engage communities within this important UNESCO site.
The three-day event combines public talks, expert panels and hands-on activities. Highlights include:
As a UNESCO World Heritage site, Aquileia preserves a rich archaeological and cultural legacy: the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta with its large early-Christian mosaics, the remains of the Roman river port and ancient road networks. These features make the festival's walks unique opportunities to read the landscape through history.
The festival highlights Aquileia's role as a hub for several historic and spiritual routes, such as:
The opening session takes place on Friday 17 April 2026 at Palazzo Brunner-Segrè, focusing on cultural policies and trail management. During the weekend, activities will be staged across the city and nearby sites: institutional venues, archaeological areas, wineries, cafés and parks will host meetings and experiential routes.
All events are free but require advance booking until places are filled. Bookings open on 7 April 2026 at 10:00 via Eventbrite. The shared walk "Una tappa insieme" on 19 April 2026 is coordinated through the official Cammini d'Italia website.
The Aquileia Walks Festival invites participants to slow down and reconnect with place, history and community: a chance to experience a UNESCO site on foot and discover the stories carried by its paths.
