Fermo turns pink: the Giro d’Italia boosts tourism and culture with arrival at Girfalco

On 16 May Fermo will welcome the finish of the eighth stage of the 109th Giro d’Italia. The event is seen as an important opportunity to showcase the city’s cultural and tourist assets alongside the sporting spectacle.

• 153 intersections will be monitored across the municipality to ensure the safe passage of the race and the flow of visitors.
• The stage covers about 157 km with 1,900 metres of elevation gain, finishing at Piazzale Girfalco after passages through the historic centre, Capodarco and the Via Reputolo climb.
• Five passes through the city create multiple locations for side events and public gatherings.

Local authorities, organisers and cultural institutions are preparing a series of related events: school talks with riders and teams, photographic exhibitions on regional cycling history, guided walks along the route and family-friendly activities on race day.

For museums, cultural operators and local businesses this is a window of visibility thanks to television coverage and social media attention. The aim is to use the Giro to promote heritage, food-and-wine traditions and the wider attractions of the Fermo area.
