Archaeological excavations continue in central Fano around the Arco di Augusto and a recently uncovered Roman basilica in Piazza Andrea Costa. The works, started on April 15, have exposed sections of pavement, foundations attributed to the basilica and segments of walls facing Via Arco d'Augusto, along with anthropological finds undergoing specialist study.
To promote public awareness of the site, free guided tours are offered: an archaeologist leads the route, explaining excavation methods, work phases and the main discoveries made so far.
Local authorities and the Superintendence for Ancona and Pesaro-Urbino are monitoring the project's progress. Funding from the national PNRR has been secured through appropriate reporting of completed work. The findings improve understanding of the site's Roman urban layout and strengthen the connection between archaeological research and public dissemination, supporting Fano's cultural initiatives within the region.
