Este (PD) — Excavations at the All'Olmo Area: campaign May 4–29, 2026

An archaeological excavation campaign is taking place in the All'Olmo area in the municipality of Este (Province of Padua). The project, carried out in collaboration with the University of Verona and authorized by the Ministry of Culture, aims to reconstruct the route of the Roman decumanus and prepare the site for future enhancement.

Campaign details

Period: May 4, 2026 - May 29, 2026

Main objectives:

• Investigation and reconstruction of the Roman decumanus;
• Documentation of finds and stratigraphy for historical research;
• Preparation of enhancement and public access works (Parco dell'Olmo).

Public guided visits

Guided visits led by archaeologists and technical staff allow visitors to observe excavation techniques and learn about the discoveries:

• Friday, May 22, 2026 — 1st session: 16:30-17:15; 2nd session: 17:30-18:15
• Friday, May 29, 2026 — 1st session: 16:30-17:15; 2nd session: 17:30-18:15

Local impact and enhancement

The investigations support creation of the future Parco dell'Olmo, envisioned as a new green space and cultural hub with educational activities for the community. Nearby redevelopment works at the Parco di Palazzo Contarini include planting, improved accessibility and restoration of historical features.
