Herculaneum: inclusive Mother's Day visits at the Archaeological Park

The Herculaneum Archaeological Park is dedicating a morning to families and young people with neurodevelopmental disorders on Mother's Day. The event aims to provide a safe, accessible and engaging cultural experience supported by trained staff and heritage operators.

• Time: 09:00–14:00 (five morning slots)
• Visit duration: about 1 hour 30 minutes
• Groups: up to 25 participants per slot
• Cost: free with standard admission ticket (reductions and exemptions apply according to regulations)
• Reservation: mandatory
• Audience: families, primary and lower secondary schools, visitors seeking accessible tours, people on the autism spectrum

Visits are planned to minimise sensory overload: guided routes with specialist support, limited group size and concise duration help ensure calm and participation. The Park provides tools tailored for neurodiversity and educational needs.

Available activities and tools include:

• the interactive digital guide called "Avventura a Ercolano";
• augmented reality and interactive beacons along the route;
• educational games (e.g. reassembling mosaics) and hands-on activities in dedicated areas;
• virtual restoration experiences of artefacts and collection of virtual coins;
• tablets provided by the Park or the option to download the app on iPad (info at ercolano.cultura.gov.it/accessibilita/).
