The Herculaneum Archaeological Park brings an educational project to Didacta Italy that blends technology, participation and inclusion. At the Fortezza da Basso in Florence the Park will present the digital guide "Adventure in Herculaneum", created to lead children and teenagers through the ancient Roman city buried by Vesuvius in 79 AD.
The tool turns a site visit into an interactive experience through multimedia content: augmented reality, educational games and immersive activities that foster curiosity and active learning. The presentation is aimed mainly at teachers, educators and school staff seeking new methods for learning in cultural sites.
Accessibility and inclusion
A key feature of the project is its focus on accessibility: the guide has been designed to be usable by visitors with autism spectrum conditions or cognitive difficulties, offering flexible routes and support tools that encourage participation from all young visitors.
Local impact
The initiative is part of the Archaeological Park’s broader commitment to using cultural heritage as an educational and social resource. Alongside conservation and research activities, the Park develops projects for the local community to improve cultural access for people facing economic or social disadvantage.
For school professionals, initiatives like this offer practical ways to combine archaeological visits with digital tools designed for experiential learning. The guide aims to be a replicable model for visiting historic sites in a more engaging and inclusive manner.
