Earth Day 2026: over 600 events across Italy

On 22 April 2026 Italy celebrates the 56th Earth Day with a wide-ranging programme of cultural and awareness activities: schools, universities, associations and local organizations participate in over 600 events coordinated by Earth Day Italia.

• Worrying figures: the 2025 report by the Osservatorio Città Clima recorded 376 extreme weather events and €11.9 billion in damages.
• Main initiatives: in Rome a national programme runs from 13 to 22 April (including the Impatta Disrupt festival on 13-15 April, the Villaggio per la Terra on 16-19 April and the #OnePeopleOnePlanet multimedia marathon on 22 April); in Turin museums and royal gardens host events on 25 April; Naples and Pescara organise academic sessions and coastal clean-ups.
• Private and tech efforts: PlanEat's food challenge (22-24 April) and participatory monitoring tools from startup IntelligEarth.

Organisers say the aim is to turn civic participation into structural action: the national Adaptation Plan, approved in 2023, remains largely unimplemented due to funding shortfalls and delays in setting up the National Adaptation Observatory.

Earth Day 2026 highlights public interest in environmental issues but also the need to move from good practices to concrete operational decisions and targeted investments at national and local levels.
