From April 1 to 8, the Sala Duce of Palazzo Ducale in Sassari presents "Domenico Dore. Chronotypes", a solo exhibition curated by Antonio Ottavio Cattari and Luca Poddighe that investigates how time and space are represented in the paintings of the Sardinian artist (b. 1954).
The works on display trace different temporal dimensions of life — from childhood to maturity — using suspended still lifes that evoke Vanitas and memento mori themes. The exhibition title draws on Mikhail Bakhtin's idea of the chronotope, reinterpreted here as a plurality of temporal viewpoints within Dore's imagery.
Curators note Dore's use of soft tones and particular perspectives to create dreamlike, suspended spaces where tensions, desires and fragility surface through the language of still life.
The opening night on April 1 at 17:30 will feature a harp performance by Beatrice Melis and contributions from Cantina Mario Bagella and the Accademia Culinaria del Coros led by Fausto Tavera. The event is part of the "Aspettando Nessun Dorma" program, a preview of the Nessun Dorma 2026 Festival supported by the Fondazione di Sardegna.
This exhibition is recommended for those interested in contemporary painting and projects that explore time, memory and the expressive potentials of still life.
