From 9 to 17 April 2026, the installation Listen to the Sky Fall by Daria Romanenko will be on view at CREA Cantieri del Contemporaneo on Giudecca island. The work combines tactile materials and live data to create an immersive sensory experience.
The installation consists of 25 blocks made of cement and wheat, laid out on the floor in a rectangle that evokes the map of Ukraine. Each block represents a geographic area and is linked to a digital map of air-raid alerts: when an alert sounds in a region, the corresponding block trembles, the ears of wheat rustle, and the space fills with subtle sounds.
Visitors can scan a QR code to follow the live alert map and experience events not through images but through movement, sound, and material changes. Prolonged alerts cause cracking in the cement and bending of the grain—symbolic gestures that suggest shared support and resilience.
Daria Romanenko was born in Ukraine in 1995 and grew up in Bergamo. Educated at Accademia Carrara with a degree in Modern Comparative Cultures, she combines visual research and civic engagement in her practice. She has taken part in international exhibitions and residencies and leads public initiatives that promote Ukrainian history and culture in Italy.
