Corniglia: the suspended village of the Cinque Terre

Autore: Redazione 02/08/2025 19:22

Corniglia is the most authentic and peaceful of the villages of the Cinque Terre in Liguria.

Since 2024, it has also been included in the list of the most beautiful villages in Italy and, unlike the other towns, it still remains far from mass tourism.

Unlike the other Cinque Terre villages, Corniglia does not have a private harbor; its soul is more rural than maritime.

In fact, the village can be reached via its famous staircase of 377 steps, known as the Lardarina.

What to see in Corniglia

Perched on a promontory, the village is a maze of narrow alleys and pastel-colored houses, surrounded by terraced vineyards where the renowned Sciacchetrà wine is produced.

Among the most important landmarks is the Church of San Pietro, dating back to the 14th century, in clear Ligurian Gothic style.

You can also reach the Santa Maria Belvedere, which offers a panoramic terrace overlooking the entire Cinque Terre coastline.

Finally, there is Via Fieschi, the main street of the village, lined with artisan shops, wine bars, and ancient houses.

Events, culture and traditions

The strong identity of the village is also reflected in the events held throughout the year.

Among the most important is the Feast of San Pietro, celebrated on June 29th, honoring the patron saint with religious rites, folk music, and tastings of local specialties.

In addition, wine and olive oil festivals take place throughout the year to celebrate the high-quality local production.

What to see around Corniglia

Corniglia is the heart of the Cinque Terre, being the most central village, and it offers numerous panoramic trails for trekking enthusiasts.

The famous Sentiero Azzurro connects Corniglia to Vernazza and Manarola, and it is also possible to visit Riomaggiore and Monterosso.

Don’t forget to tag us in your souvenir shots from the Santa Maria Belvedere!
