Corenno Plinio: the village of a thousand steps on Lake Como

Autore: Redazione 02/08/2025 19:25

Known as “the village of a thousand steps”, Corenno Plinio is located on the eastern branch of Lake Como.

This village, which owes part of its name to Pliny the Younger—who loved to spend time here—is listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy.

What to see in Corenno Plinio

The main attraction of Corenno Plinio is its castle, built in the 13th century by the Andreani counts.

Next to the castle stands the Church of Saint Thomas of Canterbury, dating back to the 12th century, which preserves frescoes and wooden artworks inside.

Also of interest are the medieval tombs carved into the rock, located in front of the Church of Saint Thomas.

Events, culture, and traditions

This village enjoys absolute tranquility and has chosen to enhance its cultural heritage through guided tours and special openings of the castle.

During the summer, the village offers cultural walks that tell visitors about life in centuries past.

What to see around Corenno Plinio

Thanks to its location on the Lecco shore of Lake Como, just a few kilometers from Corenno Plinio you can find Dervio, Bellano, and Varenna, with its gardens and historic villas.

Corenno is also an excellent starting point for excursions to Mount Legnoncino and Mount Legnone, which offer breathtaking views of Lake Como.

Corenno Plinio is a small corner of the Middle Ages suspended over the lake.
