Cella Monte: between traditions and the Infernot wine cellars

Autore: Redazione 24/08/2025 12:37

Cella Monte is a historic village with a strong identity, deeply tied to traditions and full of places to discover. Nestled in the hills of Monferrato, it offers unique views over extraordinary landscapes.

Cella Monte is unique and colorful, welcoming every visitor with character and charm, and it also allows the discovery of the Infernot wine cellars, which can only be found in this particular area of Piedmont.

Walking through the village streets, visitors are embraced by intoxicating scents and breathtaking views, capable of reconnecting the soul with the most authentic and unspoiled nature.

What to see in Cella Monte

Cella Monte has a typically medieval structure, full of colors and sandstone houses, unique in their kind, with wave-like marks on the walls. Beneath the houses lie the unmissable Infernot cellars—unique underground structures carved into sandstone, which ensures constant humidity and no drafts, creating the perfect place to preserve the local wine.

A must-see is the Ecomuseum of Pietra da Cantoni, housed in the ancient Palazzo Volta, which celebrates the sandstone that characterizes the entire Monferrato area.

The small Church of San Quirico, located on a panoramic hill, is a Romanesque chapel that once served as the parish church of the village and was a pilgrimage site for the healing of children.

Strolling through the alleys, it is impossible not to notice the unique artistic works of Gianni Colonna, adorning the village houses and creating authentic paths that connect the sandstone dwellings.

Traditions and events

Cella Monte lives in harmony with nature and is rooted in its wine and cultural traditions. It offers unique tastings and guided tours of the surrounding vineyards, part of the UNESCO heritage. Not to be missed is the event dedicated to the Infernot, during which many cellars are opened to the public, allowing visitors to admire these one-of-a-kind structures.

In autumn, the village comes alive with the grape harvest, which fills every street of the old town with colors and scents.

On the first weekend of November, the Regional Festival of the White Truffle in Valle Ghenza celebrates the fragrant underground fungus, the prince of autumn cuisine, harvested in the valley lands overlooking Cella Monte. The village also produces excellent salami, crafted with artisanal methods handed down through generations.

Exploring the surroundings

Cella Monte enjoys a unique position for exploring Monferrato, thanks to the many trails and paths that allow visitors to immerse themselves in the surrounding nature. The routes suit all types of explorers, covering a wide range of difficulty levels and satisfying even the most adventurous.

Nearby villages include Rosignano Monferrato and Ozzano Monferrato, both unique and rich in traditions handed down from generation to generation.

A short distance away lies Casale Monferrato, a city of art and history that enriches the itinerary with its beautiful palaces and the famous Synagogue, considered one of the most beautiful in Europe.

Visiting Cella Monte means discovering the elegance and authenticity of Monferrato, among unique landscapes and trails that offer genuine explorations. All that’s left is to pack your bags!
