Castrum Novum reopened and accessible in Santa Severa

The Gruppo Archeologico del Territorio Cerite (GATC) has completed a series of volunteer maintenance works that make the Castrum Novum archaeological area accessible again. The interventions improved site safety and allowed public visits and educational activities to resume.

Work carried out

  • Removal of winter covers and cleaning of exposed areas to reveal excavation fronts.
  • Vegetation cutting along paths and excavation slopes to improve visibility.
  • Reorganization of access routes to enhance visitor safety.
  • Support for research activities to enable ongoing excavations and investigations.

Education and partnerships

Castrum Novum has returned to an educational role: school visits and cultural exchanges have restarted, including a recent visit by students from the "Vignacce" school of Santa Marinella with Spanish exchange students. Activities are run in collaboration with the Polo Museale Civico to increase site accessibility and promotion.
