Bugarin + Castle — Shame Parade: Collateral Event at the 61st Venice

Description

Bugarin + Castle — Shame Parade is the Collateral Event presented by Scotland + Venice for the 61st International Art Exhibition in Venice. Curated by the Mount Stuart Trust, the project reframes long-standing European rituals of public humiliation (charivari, bell-ringing, rough music) in a contemporary queer and trans perspective, fusing historical transcripts, satirical prints and performative practices.

Works on view

The exhibition brings together architecture, sculpture, film, performance and sound installations to form layered scenes where provocation, play and tenderness coexist. Key works include the mechanical-anatomical sculpture At Certayne Tymes, the moving-image piece Submit to Sound (featuring collaborations with Manila musicians), and the gallery-spanning installation Nocturnal Amusements that directly challenges the visitor.
