Anversa degli Abruzzi wins 2nd place in the Green Village category

On 18 April 2026 the municipality of Anversa degli Abruzzi earned second place in the Green Village category of a national contest celebrating Italian villages. The award acknowledges the environmental and social work promoted by the Gole del Sagittario WWF Reserve to protect the landscape and support community well‑being.

Over the last 30 years the Reserve has carried out projects that combine nature conservation with social inclusion. A notable milestone is the 2023 recognition as the first Forest Bathing Centre in Abruzzo, a programme that pairs outdoor activities with personal-care practices to promote psychological and physical recovery.

• Environmental protection: management and safeguarding of the Gole del Sagittario ecosystem;
• Well-being in nature: forest-bathing activities involving more than 300 participants in two years;
• Inclusion: measures to remove physical, sensory and social barriers and make nature accessible to everyone;

The Reserve’s director collected the award on behalf of the team managing the Gole del Sagittario and the local administration, highlighting nature as a space for care, hospitality and dignity. The recognition consolidates Anversa degli Abruzzi’s example as a village that marries environmental conservation with services for community well‑being, encouraging further local initiatives for territory protection and social inclusion.
