Anima Errante – Tamashii no Sanpo: Asako Hishiki in Bozzolo

Period: 16 May – 21 June 2026

Palazzo dei Principi – Pinacoteca Don Primo Mazzolari in Bozzolo presents the solo exhibition by Japanese artist Asako Hishiki. The show offers a sensory and symbolic route exploring themes of shifting identity, memory, migration and transformation, balancing Japanese tradition with contemporary artistic languages.

What to see and why

The exhibition is organized across seven display environments where light, water, seasons and the recurring motif of the swallow lead visitors through a poetic journey. A central focus is the mokuhanga technique — traditional Japanese woodblock printing — reinterpreted with contemporary materials and refined visual solutions.

Practical information

  • Opening: Saturday 16 May 2026, 17:00
  • Opening concert: Saturday 16 May 2026, 18:00 (program featuring Japanese folk music and European operatic pieces)
  • Exhibition period: 16/05/2026 – 21/06/2026
  • Venue: Palazzo dei Principi – Pinacoteca Don Primo Mazzolari, Via Arini 2, Bozzolo (MN), Italy
  • Admission: free
  • Opening hours: daily 15:30–18:00; Fri & Sat 10:00–12:00 and 15:30–18:00; closed on 2 June
  • Workshops: Saturday 13 June — three hands-on workshops on Japanese artistic techniques with Kanaco Takahashi, Asako Hishiki and Kiyofumi Kobayashi (booking required)
  • Guided and educational visits: available by reservation through the Bozzolo Public Library (tel. +39 0376 233124, email: [email protected])

Context and publications

The exhibition follows the artist's recognition as the Popular Jury winner of the Città di Bozzolo Art Prize – Don Primo Mazzolari Biennial (2023 edition). The project enjoys the patronage of the Consulate General of Japan in Milan and is included among the official events marking the 160th anniversary of Italy–Japan diplomatic relations.

An anthology monograph published by Vanillaedizioni will accompany the show, presenting critical essays and an extensive iconographic repertoire covering two decades of the artist's practice.

Recommended for

The exhibition is recommended for contemporary art enthusiasts, scholars of Japanese culture, students and anyone interested in artistic practices that rework tradition through contemporary means.
