Undersecretary for Culture Gianmarco Mazzi carried out an inspection of the Roman amphitheatre in Rimini accompanied by Superintendent Federica Gonzato and municipal delegates. The visit aimed to outline recovery actions and plan measures to enhance the monument within the city's archaeological heritage.
The municipality has allocated €500,000 in its budget for site enhancement projects. Opinions differ regarding the coexistence of the amphitheatre with the school facilities operated by Ceis: the local administration currently does not intend to relocate the school, while parts of the superintendent's office and some political figures consider the school's presence incompatible with full protection of the archaeological site.
During the inspection the superintendent reviewed previous excavation campaigns and the archaeological evidence gathered, underlining the historical value of the site. Further inquiries by the Ministry of Culture and checks by the State Attorney's office are planned to clarify legal constraints, procedures, and suitable conservation measures.
The matter is under review by the competent offices: any decisions regarding relocation or changes in land use will follow technical and legal assessments. Authorities state the priority is to protect and enhance the amphitheatre as a significant example of Roman Rimini heritage.
