Mirco Marchelli's Chanukkiah on display in Genoa: "FLORILEGI – Sounding

Mirco Marchelli: "FLORILEGI – Sounding and Shining Herbarium" at the University Library of Genoa

The solo exhibition by Mirco Marchelli opens today at the University Library of Genoa and runs until 31 July 2026. Curated by Sandro Parmiggiani and Sandro Cappelletto, the show includes a Chanukkiah titled Di luce naturale, on loan since 2021 from the Museum of Lights of the Jewish Community of Casale Monferrato.

Key features of the work and exhibition:

• Materials and technique: the piece is constructed from reclaimed wood and studio leftovers, assembled into a coherent, interlocking structure.
• Concept and symbolism: the candles are conceived as columns evoking a temple, a portico or a stage, creating a dialogue between sacred space and theatrical representation.
• Sonic dimension: Marchelli places strong emphasis on sound; the Chanukkiah's presentation was accompanied by a fragment of Mozart's Kyrie for five baroque trumpets, one performed live and four on a recording.

The exhibition is promoted by the University Library and Colophonarte, in collaboration with Art Commission APS and Fondazione Casale Ebraica.
