150 house-museums open in Italy for the International Houses of Memory Day

When: Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 April 2026. More than 150 house-museums across 18 Italian regions will take part; over 400 institutions join the event worldwide.

The initiative allows visitors to enter historic homes, artist studios, villas and private residences converted into museums, offering a direct view of the daily life and creative environments of figures from music, literature, the arts and science. The aim is to highlight the memories, objects and settings that shaped these individuals' cultural output.

How to take part

Visits are scheduled across the two days with varying hours and formats depending on each venue. Some house-museums require advance booking and have limited capacity: check the official event website or the individual venue pages before planning your visit.

Notable examples in Italy

  • Casa Luciano Pavarotti (Modena)
  • Ugo Tognazzi House Museum (Velletri)
  • Casa Florio (Palermo)
  • Don Bosco House Museum (Turin)
  • National Rossini Museum (Pesaro)
  • Mantegna House (Mantua)
  • Grazia Deledda House Museum (Nuoro)
  • Montanelli Bassi Foundation (Fucecchio)

Why go: the event provides a close reading of the relationship between place and creative production, revealing domestic settings, work tools and personal collections that are often absent from conventional exhibitions.

Practical tips

  • Check opening times and access rules on the official event website or on the specific house-museum page.
  • Verify whether pre-booking is required: many venues limit visitor numbers and manage access online.
  • Arrive a few minutes early: staggered entries and guided tours often require punctuality.
  • Respect photography rules and restrictions to protect collections.

Attending the International Houses of Memory Day is a unique chance to step inside the daily environments of cultural figures and to discover spaces that preserve intimate memories and lesser-known artifacts.
