Visiting Locorotondo, the white village of the Itria Valley

Autore: Redazione 02/08/2025 19:50

Nestled in the Itria Valley lies one of the most beautiful villages in Apulia: Locorotondo.

Included in the list of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, this village takes its name from its unique urban layout.

In fact, the name “Locorotondo” reflects the historical transformation of the town, being a true circular settlement built around its mother church.

It is precisely this circular shape that makes it even more special.

What to see in Locorotondo

The historic center of Locorotondo developed around the mother church of San Giorgio Martire and is adorned with the cummerse, typical houses with sloping roofs.

Among the other sites worth visiting is the Church of Madonna della Greca, which preserves Gothic and Renaissance elements inside.

Continuing the walk toward the belvedere, visitors are greeted with a spectacular view over the countryside of the Itria Valley, where the pointed roofs of trulli can be seen scattered among the farmhouses.

The belvedere is the most beloved spot for photography enthusiasts and for those looking for a memorable selfie.

Flavors, events, and atmosphere: experiencing Locorotondo

Among Locorotondo’s many excellences is its DOC white wine, which, thanks to the incredible local culinary art, pairs perfectly with cheeses, grilled bombette (meat rolls), and the unmissable handmade orecchiette.

One of the town’s most important events is the Locus Festival, an international music festival that enlivens summer evenings with concerts, art installations, and cultural gatherings.

Whether as part of a tour of the Itria Valley or a day trip, Locorotondo will surprise you and make you want to return.
