Local associations and civic committees have asked that artifacts uncovered in the Zancati Vecchio area be conserved and studied in Paliano. Initial archaeological test trenches ordered by the Superintendency have revealed masonry remains and a structure described as a cistern or tank, which need further scientific investigation.
At a recent public briefing the first historical research and ancient-source findings were presented. One hypothesis—still unconfirmed by specialists—links the site to the Volscian city of Ecetra; this is an intriguing lead but requires verification through systematic study.
The signatory groups are asking primarily for protection, research and enhancement measures. In particular they request the downsizing of the "Paliano 1" photovoltaic project in the area of the excavations to prevent damage, and the transfer and safekeeping of artifacts in Paliano pending further study and possible public display.
The Superintendency and the municipal administration have indicated they plan a public presentation of the recovered material in spring, with historical and archaeological commentary by experts. The associations have offered to cooperate in a shared plan to protect the site and initiate concrete research and cultural enhancement activities.
Why this matters: the finds and structures emerging at Zancati Vecchio can expand knowledge of the area, open new research avenues and become a cultural asset for the community if managed according to scientific standards and made accessible to the public.
