We Rise by Lifting Others: Marinella Senatore at The Human Safety Net House
From 7 May 2026 to 22 March 2027 The Human Safety Net House, located on the third floor of the Procuratie in Piazza San Marco, presents We Rise by Lifting Others, a site-specific installation by Marinella Senatore created for the 61st International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale.
The project merges Senatore's participatory artistic practice with the social mission of The Human Safety Net. The work was developed through workshops held between December 2025 and January 2026 with families supported by partner NGOs in Warsaw, Mestre and Palermo. Words, memories and wishes gathered during these sessions have been transformed into the visual and textual elements of the installation.
The installation comprises two main components:
- A monumental luminaria (about four metres tall), referencing the festive traditions of Southern Italy in a reduced, symbolic form.
- Six tapestries made by the Chanakya School of Craft in Mumbai, inspired by baroque engravings, medieval miniatures and Japanese illustrations, featuring stylised figures, vegetal motifs and embroidered texts.
Throughout the exhibition Senatore will run somatic movement and Body Sound workshops at the venue, extending the participatory dimension of the project and offering visitors hands-on experiences.
