On Saturday 11 April 2026 at 4:00 PM, the Museo Civico e Gipsoteca Bistolfi will host the second guided tour of the exhibition “This is how Italy is made. The image of the hero from Bistolfi to Baroni”, set in the rooms of the Castello del Monferrato.
The exhibition presents sculptures and paintings illustrating how the heroic figure was depicted in Italian art from the early years of national unification to the post–World War I period. Works by artists such as Bistolfi, Eugenio Baroni, Gaetano Previati, Giuseppe Pellizza da Volpedo, Plinio Nomellini, Libero Andreotti and Eliseo Sala are on display. The selection includes important pieces from the “Martelli-Bistolfi 2021/2023” donation, some recently restored and previously unseen.
The exhibition is organized in collaboration with the City of Casale Monferrato, the local Rotary Club and the De Ferrari Foundation, with support from regional partners. It is a valuable opportunity to explore the sculptural and pictorial language that shaped the public image of the hero in Italian cultural history.
