The Municipality of Livorno has announced the appointment of Vincenzo Farinella as scientific director of the Civic Museums following a public selection process. The appointment underlines academic and curatorial expertise aimed at enhancing the city's cultural offer.
The role will establish a unified scientific direction for the Fattori Museum and the City Museum, promoting coherent exhibition planning, research activities and strategies for the valorisation of the local artistic heritage.
Farinella is a full professor at the Department of Civilizations and Forms of Knowledge at the University of Pisa and brings decades of curatorial and scholarly experience dating back to the late 1980s.
His projects include exhibitions and catalogs on figures such as Andrea Mantegna, Raphael, Gianfranco Ferroni and Giovanni Fattori — the latter recently featured in a highly attended and critically acclaimed show in Livorno.
Local authorities say the appointment is intended to strengthen museum planning and the city's cultural attractiveness, creating a scientific governance capable of developing integrated exhibition programmes and collaborative research initiatives.
The new appointment will initiate coordinated work among local museum institutions to promote Livorno's artistic heritage through exhibitions, outreach projects and academic partnerships.
