UNESCO Common Heritage: guided visits and inclusion at Lombardy's UNESCO sites

UNESCO Common Heritage is a programme aimed primarily at primary and secondary school teachers to make Lombardy's cultural assets accessible and inclusive. It provides training, educational materials and free guided visits to promote cultural participation for people with disabilities and those in vulnerable situations.

Programme and main dates

The summer schedule features on-site workshops where teachers are led by expert guides to explore UNESCO sites across the region.

  • 24 May 2026 – Isolino Virginia (Lake Varese), an important pile-dwelling prehistoric site.
  • 30 May 2026 – San Salvatore-Santa Giulia monumental complex (Brescia), a significant Lombard heritage site.
  • 31 May 2026 – Valle Camonica: Rock Engraving National Park, Massi di Cemmo Archaeological Park and the MUPRE in Capo di Ponte.
  • 6 June 2026 – Milan: visit to Leonardo's Last Supper and the Basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie.
  • 7 June 2026 – Varese: walk along the Viale delle Cappelle at the Sacro Monte of Varese.
  • 19 September 2026 – Conference "Heritage for All: mediation and inclusivity for Lombardy's UNESCO sites" at the Archaeological Museum of Valle Sabbia in Gavardo, with remote participation available.

Educational tools and accessibility

The initiative offers teachers online courses, targeted pedagogical resources, multimedia content (podcasts and interviews) and a board-game designed to guide students through the regional heritage. Many of these tools support inclusive classroom activities and are compatible with interactive whiteboards.

The free guided visits organised by Abbonamento Musei function as on-site co-design workshops and provide practical guidance for planning accessible educational outings.

How to join

Teachers interested in the events and visits should consult the official websites of the Region of Lombardy and Abbonamento Musei for the full calendar, booking procedures and downloadable teaching materials. For administrative information or details about the conference, contact the Archaeological Museum of Valle Sabbia through its official channels.

Why attend: this is an opportunity to combine field visits with inclusive teaching, network with cultural professionals and update practices in mediation and accessibility at UNESCO sites.
