A Night at Carsulae: what to expect

The Carsulae archaeological area on the ancient Via Flaminia comes to life on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 May with a living history event by the Legio I Minervia. The programme features a faithfully reconstructed legionary camp, practical demonstrations and special evening opening hours.

Main programme

  • Saturday 23 – Arrival and setup of the camp in the morning; military marches and training simulations from 11:00.
  • Saturday 23, evening – Special opening for the European Night of Museums: admission from 19:30 to 23:00 for €1. Free guided night tour at 21:00.
  • Sunday 24 – Educational activities and manoeuvres from 9:30 to 16:00, suitable for families and school groups.

Activities and educational content

The camp includes reconstructed tents and thematic stations where visitors can inspect equipment, weapons and everyday objects used by legionaries: maintenance of weapons (gladius and scutum), medical tools, religious practices, coin striking and food habits. Demonstrations explain the legion's internal organisation and the techniques behind its battlefield effectiveness.
