A Bridge Built with Art: Italy–Mozambique

Period: April 2026 – June 2027

The Italy–Mozambique cultural cooperation project in contemporary art launches as a training and exchange programme. Activities include workshop sessions in Maputo, co-creation paths and two collective exhibitions—one in Mozambique and one in Italy.

Program and main phases

  • Start: 20 April 2026 in Maputo.
  • Workshop sessions: 20–24 April 2026; 1–5 June 2026; 19–23 October 2026. Sessions combine theoretical and practical modules on curatorship, photography, visual arts, design and communication.
  • Exhibitions: a collective show with Italian and Mozambican artists; one venue will be the Natural History Museum of Maputo.

Training goals and topics

The project aims to establish sustained cultural exchange between students, artists and cultural professionals from both countries, sharing Italian contemporary art practices and supporting local contemporary creativity. Key topics include:

  • dialogue between ancient and contemporary art;
  • exhibition organisation and curatorship;
  • promotion and communication of artistic work;
  • cutting-edge artistic techniques and the contemporary art market;
  • documentation and archiving of exhibitions and artistic production.

Participants and partnerships

Curators, artists and photographers from Italy and Mozambique will take part, alongside institutional and university partners in Maputo. Recognised professionals in contemporary art will lead workshops and creative pathways throughout the project.

Practical information

Activities will mainly take place in Maputo on the dates listed; the collective exhibition will later be hosted in Italy during 2026–2027. Check institutional event calendars for updates on venues, schedules and participation details.
