History and description
Built starting in the 12th century by the Troya family—hence also called Troyana—the Clock Tower assumed its current name only in the 14th century, when a clock was added, making it the civic tower. Later, with the installation of its bell—one of the oldest in the region—it was restored to allow public visits. Standing about 44 meters tall, the tower is externally distinguished by swallow‑tailed battlements and internally by a wooden staircase leading to a panoramic balcony.
Curiosities
Considered a true “vertical museum” thanks to its features, the tower is especially renowned for its clock, which in the past signaled the opening of schools, the nightly curfew, and even the beginning of public punishments.
Access
Open daily from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, the Clock Tower can be visited at the cost of €5, with specific reductions and free entry available, as well as the option of guided tours.
How to reach it
Located in the heart of the city, the building can be reached by car, parking in the historic center and continuing on foot toward Piazza Medici, by bus or train from the central station, or on foot using the Ducal Palace as a landmark.
A true medieval architectural gem, the Clock Tower is one of Piedmont’s most iconic symbols—unmissable for its history and its breathtaking views.
