History and description
Inaugurated in October 1924, the Torre dei Caduti was designed by Marcello Piacentini to promote the development of the lower city. The square‑plan building, about 45 meters high, rises over several floors up to a terrace and was built in sandstone to evoke the medieval towers. Inside, it houses a shrine listing the names of Bergamo’s fallen soldiers of World War I, an arengario (public hall), a clock decorated with allegorical figures, and several exhibitions leading visitors to the top, where they can enjoy a panoramic view of the city.
Curiosities
Considered a “living” monument thanks to the installations inside, the Torre dei Caduti is renowned not only for its historical value but also for the panoramic perspective it offers over Bergamo, becoming a symbolic bridge between the city’s past and present.
Access
Open daily from Tuesday to Sunday, with hours varying by season, the tower can be visited at the cost of €5, with free entry and specific reductions available.
How to reach it
Located in the heart of the city center, the building can be reached by car (parking in Via Paleocapa), by bus toward Viale Roma, by train from the central station, or on foot and by bicycle.
A true place of memory for the city, the Torre dei Caduti offers a visit that combines art, history, and panoramic views, making it an unmissable stop in Bergamo.
