Opened on April 9, Táifinakpo’ marks Gisela McDaniel’s first solo presentation in Italy. The installation is on view at Galleria Poggiali in Milan until June 6, 2026.
McDaniel is a multimedia artist who blends oil painting with audio interviews, incorporating the voices of her sitters to challenge conventional power dynamics between painter and model. Her Native American and Chamorro heritage deeply informs her artistic practice and thematic focus.
The word Táifinakpo’ comes from the Chamorro language and translates as “without end,” suggesting a non-linear sense of time and enduring memory threaded through the works.
The exhibition offers an immersive, contemplative experience by fusing pictorial imagery, tactile materials and oral testimony to amplify stories often marginalized in mainstream art narratives. It demonstrates how contemporary painting can engage with identity and communal memory.
