Artist Curtains: "Shamorra" by Gianni Asdrubali

Teatro Cartiere Carrara in Florence presents Shamorra, a new hand-painted stage curtain by artist Gianni Asdrubali. Conceived as a site-specific intervention, the work converts the theatrical cloth into a large-scale painted surface that engages with the performance space.

Work details

  • Dimensions: approximately 15 m x 6.5 m, painted directly onto the curtain fabric.
  • Technique: painting on fabric using broad, swift gestures; unconventional tools (for example a broom) were used to achieve specific textures and thicknesses.
  • Process: completed in about five hours with the assistance of one aide, emphasizing immediacy of gesture and frontal stage presence.
  • Poetics: extends the artist's chromatic and rhythmic research since the 1980s, magnified to a monumental scale to interact with theatrical space.

Vernissage

Date: Saturday, 16 May 2026
Time: 11:30 AM
Admission: free
Guests: artist Gianni Asdrubali and critic Marco Tonelli will attend the presentation.
