To mark the 70th anniversary of Andrea Pazienza’s birth, two exhibitions trace the artist’s creative journey: first at MAXXI L’Aquila, then at MAXXI Rome. The shows reconstruct Pazienza’s development, from early childhood sketches to his best-known works, highlighting his formal research and expressive intensity.
The exhibitions present drawings, comic pages and archival materials that document the progression of his graphic language. The displays are organized with both chronological and thematic threads: youthful works, graphic experiments, iconic comics and lesser-known pieces are arranged to reveal the force of a distinctive voice in Italian comics and visual art.

Practical information
Visitor tips: allow at least an hour to read the panels and interpretative texts; look for guided tours or related workshops to deepen understanding of Pazienza’s biography and artistic practice. If traveling from afar, confirm museum hours and ticket availability, especially on holidays and during special events.
These two linked exhibitions offer a renewed reading of Andrea Pazienza: not only as a comics author but as an image-maker whose work blends social critique, autobiography and formal experimentation.
