Basilicata has secured a 6.2 million euro share within Reg4IA, the national initiative coordinated between the Department for Digital Transformation and the Italian regions. Placed in the cluster led by Liguria, the region will experiment with algorithms and digital tools focused on healthcare and tourism management.
The project aims to turn artificial intelligence into practical services for residents. Priority areas include shortening long waiting times for medical appointments and creating predictive systems to manage tourist flows and reception at cultural sites.
Michele Busciolano, Director General for Digital Administration of the Basilicata Region, described the initiative as "a major opportunity for a significant digital transition towards citizens." The goal is to make technology "invisible but ubiquitous," delivering faster responses and more efficient management for health facilities and tourism services.
For the cultural sector, digital tools can support better visit planning, targeted enhancement actions and more sustainable management of peak visitor periods. The next phase will be testing and evaluation to define how these technologies will be integrated into regional services.
