San Cataldo and Impruneta: a cultural twinning begins

An event held in the Sala Borsellino of San Cataldo marked the initial step toward a cultural twinning between San Cataldo (Caltanissetta) and Impruneta (Florence). Organized by the San Cataldo Pro Loco with local administrations, the initiative aims to highlight shared artisanal traditions and popular devotional practices.

Central to the meeting was a terracotta bas-relief by Impruneta artist Luca Vanni, part of a cycle dedicated to the Stations of the Cross now integrated into the artistic route of Piazza Calvario. The project is part of a network connecting 18 municipalities renowned for ceramic production, fostering exchange of skills and local identity promotion.

  • Art and heritage: the 14 chapels of the Calvario host a total of 18 ceramic panels, covering the Via Crucis stations and additional panels for the Via Lucis.
  • Delegations: the Impruneta delegation, led by Deputy Mayor Laura Cioni and representatives of the Pro Loco, confirmed plans for reciprocal cultural activities.
  • Music and participation: the program included a performance of the traditional "pianto di Maria" by cellist Eliana Miraglia, underscoring the bond between music and local ritual.

Both communities agreed on Impruneta's participation in San Cataldo's Holy Week celebrations and on inviting San Cataldo representatives to Impruneta's traditional Grape Festival in September, initiating a relationship based on cultural exchange and the enhancement of local identities.

The planned collaboration foresees exhibitions, artisan exchanges and joint events aimed at promoting the excellence of ceramic craftsmanship and the safeguarding of living traditions.
