A significant meeting took place between the Moroccan Honorary Consul, Domenico Naccari, and Mons. Giuseppe Alberti, Bishop of the Diocese of Oppido Mamertina–Palmi, aimed at strengthening interreligious dialogue and defining concrete integration initiatives in the Piana di Gioia Tauro area.
The Consul's adviser, Giuseppe Saletta, also attended. The Diocese highlighted its ongoing commitment to ecumenism and interreligious dialogue, supported by priests and the Diocesan Office for Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue, led by don Roberto Meduri.
Key topics included consolidating stable relations with local Muslim communities (a Moroccan presence estimated at over 2,000 people), organising shared cultural initiatives, and involving younger generations in intercultural educational projects.
The meeting recalled the contribution of local figures who have embodied hospitality and dialogue. At the end of the encounter, the Consul presented the Bishop with a commemorative plate bearing the Moroccan emblem as a gesture of friendship and collaboration, and participants exchanged Easter greetings in a spirit of peace and fraternity.
The initiative sets out an operational calendar of meetings and activities intended to turn interreligious exchange into concrete practices of cultural and social integration in the territory.
