From March 14 to August 23, 2026, Florence hosts a comprehensive exhibition dedicated to Mark Rothko, curated by Christopher Rothko and Elena Geuna. The show explores connections between Rothko's work and the city's Renaissance heritage through a multi-venue presentation.
The exhibition brings together more than 70 works tracing Rothko's artistic evolution: early figurative pieces influenced by Expressionism and Surrealism, moving towards the abstract colour fields that defined his work in the 1950s and 1960s. Several loans come from leading international collections, offering works rarely displayed in Italy.
The project is staged across three historic Florence sites:
