Reggio Calabria relaunches Coordination Table for tourism and culture

An interinstitutional meeting at the Chamber of Commerce of Reggio Calabria marked the relaunch of the coordination table for cultural heritage promotion and tourism development, originally started in 2017 and paused during the pandemic.

Goal: to define shared strategic priorities and an integrated programme that optimises resources, prevents duplication of efforts and supports local economic development.

  • Institutional participants: Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria, University of the Mediterranean, the Archdiocese, Diocesan Museum, Aspromonte National Park Authority, National Archaeological Museum, Regional Museums Directorate, SABaP and the Academy of Fine Arts.
  • Key priorities: improving road access to inland areas, workforce training for local businesses, developing offers such as agritourism and wedding tourism, and boosting sports and outdoor activities to reduce seasonality.
  • Territorial enhancement: promoting the UNESCO GeoPark, trail networks and the Parks cycle route as tools to attract visitors.
  • Outlook: expand participation to other bodies (Region, municipal representatives, local action groups) and convert priorities into shared, sustainable projects.

2025 tourism data presented at the meeting show a reversal of the 2024 trend with increased arrivals and stays and a higher share of foreign visitors; however, accommodation occupancy remains low. In the coming weeks the table will work on translating strategic lines into concrete actions and public‑private synergies.
