Founded in the 1920s by the Grand Hotel Villa d'Este, Golf Villa d'Este marks its centenary in 2026, reaffirming its status as a leading venue in Italian and European golf. A Press Day on 31 March opened the celebrations and highlighted the course's relaunch following its return to Villa d'Este S.p.A. ownership in 2024.
Designed by English architect James Peter Gannon, the 18-hole course on the Montorfano hills is renowned for its rolling fairways and wooded landscape of pines, chestnuts and birches. The layout rewards strategy and precision and has hosted top professionals, including twelve editions of the Open d'Italia.
The centenary year, under the motto Heritage Made Contemporary, aims to balance memory and renewal, with investments in youth programmes and public initiatives to bring new audiences closer to the game.
The club's junior programme involves around one hundred under-18s, underlining a commitment to training and values such as discipline and respect. Alongside competitive events, renewed hospitality offerings — including a restaurant with panoramic terrace — aim to enhance the visitor experience.
The 100th anniversary of Golf Villa d'Este celebrates a century of sporting tradition, landscape stewardship and community life.
