Roots on the Move: Verbicaro showcases a cultural tourism model for Calabria

From 1 to 3 May 2026 the historic center of Verbicaro will become a living laboratory aimed at promoting cultural, landscape and gastronomic heritage. Promoted by Pro Loco Verbicaro APS and supported by a network of local bodies, the project seeks to create a replicable format for enhancing Calabria's small towns.

• Program: opening conference, masterclasses on traditional cuisine, workshops on pastimes, tastings and folk music.
• Participation: involvement of local associations, the Calabria Region, Unpli, Arsac, Pollino National Park, Gal Riviera dei Cedri, Ens Calabria and other territorial entities.
• Focus: inclusion (accessible activities, LIS interpreting), sustainability and a participatory, intergenerational approach.
• Goal: to extend the tourist season and provide tools for local regeneration to counter depopulation.

The event highlights the Verbicaro community and its ties with diaspora networks, aiming to turn memory and traditions into concrete development opportunities.
