Spring Cleaning: upkeep and inclusion in Perugia's historic neighborhoods

From 7 to 10 May 2026 the associations' table of Perugia's historic center organizes a week of events focused on urban upkeep, social inclusion and the promotion of local boroughs. The tenth edition expands the single-day cleanup into a series of activities involving volunteers, guided walks and cultural moments aimed at strengthening community ties.

How to join: activities are open to residents and visitors; volunteers can go to the designated meeting points for each neighborhood or contact the participating associations to get involved.

Key program

• 7 May – 16:00: meet at the Biblioteca di San Matteo degli Armeni to care for the San Matteo community gardens ('Greppomeleto'). 18:00 in Piazza Lupattelli: an awareness event on proper waste sorting using images of littered streets and public discussion.
• 8 May – 18:00: social aperitif at Corso Garibaldi 173 to organize the main cleanup day and collect ideas for small green projects proposed by residents.
• 9 May – 11:30: "Good morning. May we enter?" tour of a notable private garden in the Porta Sant'Angelo district (meeting point: Corso Garibaldi 173). Afternoon activities organized by APS Borgo Bello in Piazza Giordano Bruno and Via del Persico: 16:30 "Neighborhood Memory", a guided cultural walk led by locals and experts; 21:00 documentary screening about free thinker Vittorio Gorini in Piazzetta Santo Stefano.
• 10 May – Grand finale – 09:00–12:30: Spring Cleaning day, with volunteers working to tidy streets, alleys, squares and green areas in the historic center. Material pickup and task assignment will take place at neighborhood meeting points: Corso Bersaglieri 49, Piazzetta Santo Stefano, Terrazza del Cortone, Piazza Mariotti and Biblioteca di San Matteo degli Armeni. 13:00 communal lunch at Corso Garibaldi 173; 16:30 children’s activity "Small hands, deep roots" (planting flowers and herbs) at Terrazza del Cortone; 19:00 community dinner at the Borgo Bello arena with live music.

Side events

Until 10 May the geo-painting exhibition "The rose, art and the crystallization of red roses" is on display at the L'Ultima Alchimia workshop, Via Pinturicchio 45. Opening hours: 10:30–13:00 and 16:30–19:30.
