Exhibitions Extended: the 'Bronze Idols' Project in Brescia and Florence

Autore: Redazione 03/04/2026 22:17

Extended run for the "Bronze Idols" exhibitions

Following positive public response, the exhibitions within the Bronze Idols project have been extended to allow further visits and cultural programming. The initiative pairs archaeological material with contemporary interventions to stimulate new interpretations.

  • Victoria Mater. The idol and the icon – Brixia. Archaeological Park of Roman Brescia: extended until 21 June 2026. Francesco Vezzoli's site‑specific installation introduces a large bronze silhouette that creates trompe‑l’oeil effects and a conceptual dialogue with the Vittoria Alata and the Idolino of Pesaro.
  • Icons of power and beauty – National Archaeological Museum, Florence: extended until 14 June 2026. The exhibition examines the use of imperial imagery in the 3rd century AD through gilded bronze heads, coins and gems from local and Medici collections.

The extension also incorporates several related events designed to deepen the project’s themes:

  • Public talk: a conversation between Francesco Vezzoli and filmmaker Peter Greenaway, moderated by Chiara Costa, reflecting on the interplay between classical memory and contemporary languages.
  • Film screening: a selected feature by the guest director will be shown at Cinema Nuovo Eden as part of the program.
  • Viridarium installation: Vezzoli’s Metaphysical Nike will be displayed in the Museum of Santa Giulia’s sculpture park, extending the exhibition route outdoors.
  • Exhibition catalogues: Allemandi will publish catalogues with curatorial essays and scholarly contributions.

The project is implemented through cooperation among museums, cultural institutions and sponsors, aiming to connect Brescia’s archaeological heritage with contemporary artistic voices.

For practical details on opening hours, visiting rules and reservations, check the official websites of the participating institutions or the Fondazione Brescia Musei channels.
