‘Ecce Homo’ by Antonello da Messina: exhibition extended in Rome

The small but significant panel representing the ‘Ecce Homo’ by Antonello da Messina will remain on view in the Capitular Hall of the Senate Library at Palazzo della Minerva until 19 April 2026. The extension was approved following high visitor turnout, especially around the Easter holidays.

After the Rome showing, the work is scheduled to move to the Museo Nazionale d’Abruzzo (Munda) in L’Aquila, which will host it as its permanent location as part of the L’Aquila Italian Capital of Culture 2026 program. Prior to arriving in L’Aquila, the painting will take part in a travelling exhibition across several major Italian museums.

Practical information

  • Location: Capitular Hall, Senate Library, Palazzo della Minerva — Piazza della Minerva 38, Rome.
  • Extended until: 19 April 2026.
  • Admission: free from Monday to Friday.
  • About the work: a small double-sided panel (approx. 15 x 10 cm) and an early interpretation of the ‘Ecce Homo’ theme in Antonello’s oeuvre.

This exhibition is part of institutional initiatives to promote national artistic heritage and offers an accessible opportunity to see an important Renaissance masterpiece before its permanent relocation to the Munda.
