The national initiative Spring in the Villages brings attention to Castelsantangelo sul Nera, a resilient mountain village in the Marche that continues to promote its historical, artistic and natural heritage after the 2016 earthquake.
The settlement preserves a medieval triangular castrum layout with the main tower and the bell towers of S. Martino and S. Stefano. The village houses notable artworks and iconographic cycles by regional masters that decorate local churches and convents.
The visit is an opportunity to explore a mountain village within the Monti Sibillini National Park, admire valuable artistic evidence and learn about local efforts for post-earthquake recovery and strategies against depopulation of inland areas.
The chapel, historically used as shelter for travelers, once housed a small 15th-century Pietà, now kept in a regional museum for preservation. The outing is organized in cooperation with the Municipality of Castelsantangelo sul Nera and the local CAI section.
For the latest timing and logistical details, consult the Municipality’s and the involved associations’ official channels.
