The Treasure of the Basilica expands its visitor offer with the exceptional opening of the Chapel of Saints Bartholomew and Satyrus, normally closed to the public. For a limited period visitors can admire two important frescoes by Giambattista Tiepolo up close.

The two panels, The Shipwreck of Saint Satyrus and The Martyrdom of Saint Victor, date from 1737 and were part of a cycle commissioned for monastic spaces. They depict episodes from the lives of the saints and stand out for their luminous palette and spatial depth, with dramatic contrasts that intensify the narrative effect.

Removed from their original locations in the nineteenth century and rehoused in the mid-20th century in the Chapel of Saints Bartholomew and Satyrus, these frescoes underwent significant conservation work in 2020. The special opening offers a rare chance to see the works in context and to appreciate the Basilica’s artistic treasury.

The Ambrosius route, recently reorganised and reopened, combines museum displays and multimedia installations with historically significant spaces. Key stops along the itinerary include:

  • Multimedia hall with an introductory film on Saint Ambrose;
  • Aula Ambrosii, the former monks’ sacristy open to the public;
