Spring in the Villages: April 19th, a nationwide celebration

Date: April 19, 2026

On April 19, the nationwide initiative "Spring in the Villages" takes place, aimed at promoting historic centers and small towns. The program connects archaeology, nature, culture and local stories through guided tours, walks and community events.

Why attend:

  • Many villages preserve unique cultural and environmental values: in Italy about 6,694 municipalities have fewer than 10,000 inhabitants, and 5,500 have fewer than 5,000.
  • Traditional small villages, numbering roughly 5,521, are home to nearly 10 million people (about 17% of the national population) and cover a large part of the territory, contributing to biodiversity.
  • The day links local initiatives to create cultural routes and a potential open-air network of museums across lesser-known villages.

In Campania there are scheduled events and guided visits in several towns. For example, Alife (in the province of Caserta) will feature activities centered on the Church of San Michele.

Practical tips:

  • Check the local event calendar for schedules and reservation details.
  • Favor walking tours or nature trails to fully enjoy the landscape and minimize environmental impact.
  • Bring comfortable shoes, water and a map or guide to make the most of your visit.

Joining "Spring in the Villages" supports historic centers, reveals lesser-known routes and helps safeguard the cultural and natural heritage of local communities.
